I currently offer private classes in Basic Faux Finishing, Wall Glazing, Gilding, Stenciling & More. Class size is limited to 3 students maximum. The Basic Glazing Class is the foundation for all other studies. I developed this system while teaching at New York University and for Janovic Paints (Benjamin Moore) so that you, the painting professional, artist and dedicated amateur will have a solid foundation on which to build a portfolio of finishes that can grow throughout your entire career.. Not being dependent on any product line this system allows you to create traditional finishes using products available at most paint and art stores. The specialized products are great and can be used to create wonderful finishes, but it is my firm belief that one should know the finish first and not have to rely on the product to achieve the desired results. Once you have that fundamental knowledge you have real control over your work. The specialized product lines are then additional tools in the arsenal that you command, not one that controls your work.  It also gives you the advantage when designing new finishes.

The Basic Glazing Class concentrates on Wall Glazing because that is where the glazes can best be understood by themselves. Once you learn the basic formula for building glazes and someRaggingOff-Website.jpg (182878 bytes) fundamental Application Techniques you will discover that they can be used for more complex finishes such as Marbling and Wood Graining. Learning the Pounce Technique in addition to the Wet Edge will allow you to maintain a uniform texture over the surface of an entire wall. NO LAPLINES! You will learn how to use sponges, cheesecloth, rags, stippling & dragging brushes and more to create finishes that can be usedAntiqueRedLeather-Website.jpg (133524 bytes) by themselves or as part of more complex finishes. You will work on a wall as well as boards that you can use to start or enhance your portfolio. The class runs 6 hours the 1st day. If you need part of a 2nd day to complete the finishes it will be included in the price which is $400.00 for a private one-on-one class. If you have a helper it is recommended that they come along to learn these techniques. Negative applications (another thing you will learn in class) almost always require 2 people and having a trained assistant will be a great help. Your assistant can come to this class for 1/2 price.

(This class is required before taking other classes involving glazes)

All other classes are designed specifically to meet the needs of the student. Most classes can be taught in 1 to 2 days because of the small class size. Materials are generally included except for Gilding and Venetian Plaster. Arrangements can be made for Furniture Classes.

Price:  $400.00 per day for one-on-one classes. Discounts will be given for additional students. There is a 3 student maximum.

(Multiple Class Discounts are available if purchased in advance)
